June Art Exhibit:  Sharon Svec

Meet the artist during June’s First Friday Art Walk from 6-8 PM

Sharon Svec moved to Vancouver, WA in 2008. She received her MFA in Professional Media Practice (2007), and BFA in Visual Communication (2000) from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Her tapestry work has been exhibited locally and nationally since she started producing in 2014. Prior to that, most of her artistic endeavors were focused on dance and performance. In addition to her artwork, she works independently in the fields of marketing, communication and printing.

Artist Statement
I create tapestries through an original process of exposing images onto fabric, and layering with various stenciling techniques. The process developed out of my experiences in graphic design, and of the printing and publishing industries; and is nurtured by a love of expression, nature, and universe.

The images are carefully selected and reflect on dance, posture and movement. Additional layers add context and depth. The resulting pieces are empowering, sobering, reflective, peaceful and turbulent.
